The sex/gender of the city begins with our daily lives.

Everybody in the city has different identities in life, as well as gender/sexual identities. While most people are entitled to equality and freedom, the entrenched binary of the gender/sexuality concept has deprived the basic rights of sexual minorities.

Why don’t we break through the wall and explore different possibilities in life?

A group of scholars who are concerned with gender/sexuality topics established the Scholars Alliance for Sexual and Gender Diversity in 2013, and they give impetus to the development of gender/sexuality diversity through education and research. This book reorganises and analyses the history and development of gender/sexuality in Hong Kong from multiple perspectives including social movements, education, family, erotic relationship, popular culture and feminine body. It also allows readers to better understand gender equality with the concepts of “sexual citizenship”, “sexual rights”, “gender identity”, and the discussions of diverse erotic feelings and affections.

Scholars Alliance for Sexual and Gender Diversity was established in 2013 by a group of scholars and teachers concerning local sex and gender issues. Members include educators and researchers on topics of sex and gender, homosexuality, bisexuality, transgender and queer identity. The alliance aims to foster education, research, training and support on sex and gender diversity issues, hoping to build a more respectful, open-minded and liberal society.
